Care for the people who cared for us
Caregiver4U connects South African families with verified caregivers and volunteers for their parents and older relatives: companionship, dementia support, help with mobility and personal care, respite and live-in care.
Why we started
Finding someone to care for an older parent in South Africa usually means asking around in WhatsApp groups, paying agency fees, and hoping the person who arrives is who they say they are.
We built Caregiver4U to make that search safer, simpler and fairer: checked caregivers, prices shown up front, and families talking directly to the person who will care for their loved one.
What we stand for
Trust you can check
Every caregiver and volunteer goes through the same identity and background checks before their profile goes live, and the badges on a profile show exactly which checks were done.
Free for families
Browsing and contacting caregivers costs families nothing. You message them directly on WhatsApp, with no unlock fees and no middleman.
Fair for caregivers
Paid caregivers set their own rates and keep every rand a family pays them. We charge a small monthly listing fee, never a commission.
Volunteers welcome
Retirees, faith and community groups, and learners completing school community-service hours list for free, through an organisation we can contact.
Care in your language
Find someone who speaks English, Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa or Sesotho. For a parent living with dementia, a familiar language can make all the difference.
Privacy first
We never create profiles for the person receiving care, and caregivers show their area, never their home address. We handle personal information under POPIA.
How we check caregivers
Paid caregivers and volunteers go through the same checks before anyone can find them.
- 01
Identity
A valid South African ID, matched to the person signing up.
- 02
SAPS police clearance
A current police clearance certificate, checked before listing.
- 03
Elder Abuse Register
Checked against the register kept under the Older Persons Act.
- 04
References
Previous families or employers, and for volunteers, their school or organisation.
A note on safety: A verified badge means our checks were completed. It isn't a guarantee of how someone will behave in future. We still recommend meeting a caregiver first, speaking to their references, and trusting your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, tell us.
